Måløy is a small town, with 3,000 residents, on the southeastern side of Vågsøy Island. The city centre is connectet to the mainland by the Måløy bridge, and is a safe haven for boat traffic when the stormy weather prevents the crossing of the Stadhavet ocean.

Whether you are looking for dramatic winter storms or magical summer nights, this is the place to visit. Kråkenes Lighthouse is located by the village of Kråkenes about half an hour drive from the center of Måløy. This is one of the most exposed places on the west coast of Norway, surrounded by open sea and with several wind records.
Despite the fact that the lighthouse is located on a plateau 45 meters above sea level, waves splash far up onto and above the windows when the storms ravage at their worst. However, on a nice summer evening there is nothing like the sight of a magnificent sunset right here on the western tip of the island.

Vågsberget is one of the most complete and maintained trading posts and guesthouses along the coast of Norway. The buildings date from around 1800, but the trading post has roots dating back to the 17th century. Today the buildings are beautifully surrounded by a park area, easily accessible from both land and sea.
During the summer season Vågsberget is open for guided tours of the historical houses and exhibitions, and there is a càfe in the main building.

In the charming streets of Måløy, you can visit the viewpoints providing a unique panorama perspective of the town. In the town center, you will find cafés and restaurants as well as fantastic street art representing the coastal culture. Street artists from Norway and abroad have set their imprint on the town, decorating some of the large buildings of with color and storytelling art.
The Street Art project have evolved over several years and today you will find as many as 20 murals in the Måløy region, most of which can be seen within walking distance in the town center.

Vestkapp is located 496 meters above the Stadhavet ocean at the edge of Stadlandet, and well worth a visit. Being the westernmost mountain-plateau in Norway you will find one of the most breathtaking views along the coastline of Norway.
On a clear sunny day, you can see as far north as Ålesund and the Sunnmøre Alps, you might even spot an oil drilling rig far out in the ocean. The area is well known for its unpredictable climate and strong winds, so make sure to dress properly for the weather conditions.

In the village of Refvik facing the Stadhavet ocean is Refviksanden, a 1.5 km long beach with chalk-white sand. The beach has been named Norway’s finest sandy beach on several occasions.
In the strongest autumn storms, it can be dangerous to move outdoors here, while on a quiet summer day the place is a pure idyll. During the summer months, you can be enchanted by magnificent sunsets in gold, purple, pink and orange.
Although Refvik is a place of contrasts there is no other place you would rather be on a nice summer day.

On the third day of Christmas 1941 at 09:48, the first bomb fell on Måløy and within 10 minutes 560 grenades were dropped. Civilians fled into their basements, and in the streets, soldiers fought to the death. Six hours later, large parts of Måløy were destroyed. Operation Archery, better known as the Måløyraid, was a British-led operation against German forces on Vågsøy.
Original pictures from the raid and meters of original film are displayed in a historical exhibition telling a vivid story of what happened on Vågsøy those Christmas days. The Måløyraid centre is located in the centre of Måløy, and comprises three floors including a bunker that was built by the Germans and used for sanitary bunkers after the Måløyraid.

Silda is a small scenic island located just east of Måløy. This car-free island is a paradise for families with children, those who want to fish, dive or just enjoy nature. In the past, many permanent residents lived here, but today there are mostly holiday homes and cottages on the island.
Beautifully situated on the southern side of the island you will find Skjærbuda, previously used as salting works for herring. Skjærbuda has retained its historical character and occasionally serves as a social meeting point and restaurant.

The Kannestein rock is a unique rock formation located by the shore in the village of Oppedal. This approximately 3-meter-high rock has been formed by the sea for thousands of years, and it is definitely one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area.
At low tide and calm sea, it is possible to climb onto the rock and capture the moment with spectacular images.
